Before World War II, the Fairlington area of Arlington, VA was just farmland—but after the attack on Pearl Harbor, it became the largest Defense Department housing project in the U.S. Designed in the colonial revival style, Fairlington provided homes for government and defense workers and fostered a tight-knit community.
