Lawmakers say the monthly payments will help end child poverty

A group of Democratic lawmakers is renewing the push to make the child tax credit payments permanent, saying it would go a long way toward ending child poverty. The first round of payments reached families' bank accounts last week. The payments — up to $300 per child — will be delivered every month over the next year under the American Rescue Plan.
